Unique Café and Restaurant South Wales - Black Rock Grill
Tuesday, 2 October 2007

The Carreg Restaurant is, as you know, one of the most unique places you can eat in Narberth today. Located at the heart of Pembrokeshire we are in a prime position for residents and visitors alike, who can come any time for a morning coffee pick me up to an evening meal cooked at your table using the Black Rock Grill method.
The Black Rock Grill method of cooking is the perfect way to cook and eat food when dining out with friends. If you have ever been to a Teppanyaki restaurant and had your food cooked in front of you by the chef you will have experienced a different kind of evening meal, the whole table are able to interact in a different way to the usual sit and serve method of eating out making the experience more of a collective one. The Black Rock method is a less raucous one when compared to the Japanese Teppanyaki, there is no madcap chef at your table tossing eggs into his hat, or yours, no flames shooting up or ninja prawns flying through the air into your bowl, you cook your fish or meat as you dine to your own preference on the hot rock plate.
This is how it works; the volcanic rocks are sourced from South Africa and sent to China to be engineered to the highest standard. The end product you'll see are smooth, stylish, square plates which are heated in the oven to 450 Celsius (so don't touch them), once out of the oven it is placed onto a holder with two side compartments for your sides which are kept hot by the plate throughout your meal. The chef sears your main dish be it fish, poultry or red meat on the main plate to keep the juices and flavour in, then it is brought to your table. From here on it is up to you, cut off a bite size piece and place on to the hot rock, it will quickly cook and depending on how long you leave it you can have a rare, medium and well done steak in the same meal!
We do have menus for the Black Rock but you can pretty much have anything you want, we just make suggestions on what we know works really well. If you have a party coming up this unique dining experience will really get the party started.
Everyone eating at the same it, no more waiting for other meals to arrive (not that that ever happens here, of course), side dishes stay hot every time, Black Rock is the future of interactive dining and it is here at The Carreg.
