End of the month!

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

It’s the end of September already! It’s hard to believe that we were celebrating the summer rain a few short weeks ago, now we have the rainy autumn! I think The Carreg ducks are in their element! Have you ever seen a duck smile?

Here are a few dates for your diaries. On October 8th we have the Hot 100 award dinner, on 31st October we have our annual ‘Hallowe’en Hootenany’ with a set menu and folk music, then we are into Party season and, after that, Christmas! If you wish to receive a Christmas menu or further details of any event either e-mail us on info@thecarregrestaurant.co.uk or phone us on 01834 862990 and we will look after your requirements.

Bye!!

Most Definately Angela!

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Did anyone see me on TV last night? I was interviewed by Angela Burns for 15 minutes about the economic position in Pembrokeshire. Unfortunately the only three words you hear coming from my mouth are “Most definately, Angela!” Still, the Courtyard looked lovely!

I also organised the Hot 100 Dinner for September 30th when it should be October 8th instead!

Honestly! I am a big idiot sometimes!

World Class Steak

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

I would like to say thank you for an absolutely stunning meal on
Saturday! I have been very lucky to travel the world, including some of
the most rated restaurants in South Africa and I would have to say that
I think that the steak that I had on Saturday was one of the best steak
that I have had. I normally do not compliment a restaurant; however it
is a pleasure to send a compliment when it is due!

I wish you all the success in the future!

Kindest Regards

James Davies

Blog entry from the Cruxtons

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

We (family of four very, very different tastes) ate with you twice last week. The food was magnificent, and we\’re still talking about it days later. Have returned home from our holiday, and since clicking on your website want to jump into a time machine and join you for lunch tomorrow! Only \”dissappointment\”- have found out about your shop and garden as a result of the website. Why not advertise it on your menu? Ever thought of compiling a \”The Carreg Recipe Book\”, if so put us down for a copy! Love the Cruxton family. (Friday night 7.15pm reservation).

The Carreg Experience

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

When Wendy and I had the idea of starting a restaurant all that time ago, people must have thought we were bonkers! For a start we both had careers running our own businesses and were busy enough with all that we had on our plates. However we thought that we could push against our own limits a smidge more and open The Carreg (which means Stone in Welsh, referring to our stone grill cooking system). But that seems ages ago now! This year we were extremely privileged to be included in The Western Mails’ (Wales’ only national daily newspaper) Hot 100 up and coming companies! Wow! We were also nominated for a Best Eaterie award on UKfood on Satellite Television! This is fantastic! Each day, as we open the doors, The Carreg Experience is reaching out to a wider and wider audience!

This summer we opened the Tranquility Garden, so now we have our own chicken, goats and ducks, oh my! (Or is that ‘The Wizard of Oz’?) We really want to make the earth a better place to live by reducing our carbon footprint as much as we can. We recycle as much as we can- can anyone tell me why Pembrokeshire County Council still do not have a commercial plastic recycling scheme? We have our own fresh free range eggs, seasonal vegetables and we favour bio-degradeable products whenever possible. And we have a link to Greenpeace :)

Opening a restaurant when we were already so busy was always going to be a gamble, but as a wise man once told me  ”Jump off the edge of a cliff, build your wings on the way down.”

Enjoy our new blog. If there is anything you wish to see in any part of The Carreg, go to the website www.thecarregrestaurant.co.uk, become A Carregular and leave me a message in the Comments box. Also, we are now on Facebook! Thanks to Josh for sorting that out!

See you soon,

Ian

PS Please watch ITV Wales at 11pm tomorrow! I am talking about Pembrokeshires’ economy with our Assembly Member, Angela Burns, in the Carreg Courtyard!
